Back in Havana

We're now staying at the Parque Central Hotel which is within walking distance of the Old Town.  This Iberostar Hotel has two buildings and unfortunately we are in the more modern one and it's not very good at all.  The carpet in the room lobby is damp, there is no screen or curtain on the shower, the ironing board sits randomly in the room, which is dark and dingy.

The old building which is accessed via a tunnel is lovely, with beautiful colonial common areas and a very nice rooftop swimming pool which gives great views.

Randomly there was a fashion show by the pool this afternoon.

Tonight after dinner out (not very inspiring and yet another band!) we went to the historic Hotel Nacional for a Bueña Vista Social Club performance.  This club was around in the 1940s and some 50 years after it closed, some of the musicians were brought out of retirement to perform and record an album which was extremely successful and a film was made about it.  Nowadays there are various acts around performing at various clubs and hotels.  It was amusing to watch these oldies but for us, the volume was way too high and after a while we left and wandered around this lovely old hotel.
